Best AI GIF Generators in 2026: 7 Tools Compared
The best AI GIF generator depends on your input and budget. We compared 7 tools on input, model, price, free option and watermark, checked on 2026-11-05.
The best AI GIF generator depends on what you start with and what you will pay. For a quick free try, Magic Hour and CapCut need no account. For a GIF made inside a chat you already use, ChatGPT Images 2.6 is the new option. For one photo turned into a loop, GifGen is built for it. For full control over frames and speed with pay-per-GIF credits, there is ImagenGIF.
Disclosure: we make ImagenGIF, which is on this list. Every fact below was checked on 2026-11-05 from each tool's own site, and where a page does not say something, we write "not stated".

How we compared
We looked at five things on each tool's own pages: what goes in (text, photo, video), which model it uses, what comes out (length, frames, size), what it costs, and whether it has a watermark or needs an account. We did not rate image quality, because it changes with every prompt. We dropped tools that were not really AI GIF generators, that we could not open, or whose demo was not live. One site's own page says "Full AI generation is coming soon", so it is not here. Viberot makes GIF reactions, but it is mainly a video tool and its page gives no GIF price, so we left it out too.
Prices are what the pages showed on 2026-11-05. They change often, so check the link before you pay.
ChatGPT Images 2.6
ChatGPT Images 2.6 was released on 2026-11-04. OpenAI says you can turn a prompt or an image into an animated GIF, adjust the speed, edit single frames and share it on repeat. It is rolling out to ChatGPT and Codex users on web, desktop and mobile.
Does well: you are already in the app, you can change a GIF by chatting, and frame editing is built in. It is the easiest way to try an AI GIF.
Limits: OpenAI's post does not state frame count, size, daily limits or a watermark policy for GIFs, so we cannot give you numbers. You steer the result with words, not with fixed settings. Our guide Can ChatGPT make GIFs? goes deeper.
Price: included with your ChatGPT plan. Per-GIF cost is not stated.
Best for: people who already use ChatGPT and want a GIF or two without another site.
Google AI Studio GIF Maker
Google lists a GIF Maker among its AI Studio starter apps. Google's developer blog describes it as "Remix and create gifs using Gemini 2.0 Flash with native image generation." When we opened the link, it asked for a Google sign-in.
Does well: it comes from Google, it is a good way to see how Gemini draws frames, and AI Studio apps can be a free playground.
Limits: it is a demo app, not a product. We found no stated price, output size, frame count or watermark rule, and the app page is not public without signing in. Third-party guides call it the Magical GIF Maker, but Google's own blog calls it GIF Maker.
Price: not stated.
Best for: people who want to experiment with Gemini and have a Google account.
CapCut AI GIF generator
CapCut's AI GIF generator says it turns "text, images, or videos into dynamic GIFs". It names the Seedance model for text-based creation and lists "Seedance or Video G4.0" for images. You can pick aspect ratio and duration, and exports come in "240P, 320P, and 640P".
Does well: it is the only tool here that lists video as an input, and it sits next to CapCut's editor. The page says "no sign-up required".
Limits: the page does not state pricing, free limits or a watermark rule, and its footer sends you to a CapCut login. Exports top out at 640P, which is small. Length is chosen in the tool, but the page gives no seconds.
Price: not stated on the page.
Best for: people who already edit in CapCut or who want to start from a video clip.
Magic Hour
Magic Hour's AI GIF generator takes text only. The page says image to GIF "may be added in the future". It does not name its model and does not state length or size. It lists "From $0.047 / gif" for the API and "3 free GIFs per day — no account needed". It says there is no watermark, including for free users.
Does well: the free daily allowance is clear, and it needs no account. This is the best answer to the search "ai gif generator free" on this list.
Limits: no photo input, no stated size, no stated model. Magic Hour's pricing page says free video and audio outputs may carry a watermark and that image watermarks vary by workflow, so check the file you get. Plans start at $19 a month (Creator) and one-time credit packs start at $10 for 4,000 credits. The pricing page does not say how many credits one GIF costs.
Price: free for 3 a day; paid use from $0.047 a GIF on the API.
Best for: quick, free text-to-GIF tries with no sign-up.
GifGenerator.io
GifGenerator.io offers AI text-to-GIF, photo animation, free frame combining (up to 40 images) and free video-to-GIF conversion. Photo animation has three models: Turbo (480P), Turbo HD (768P) and H3 Max Studio (1080P), and it defaults to 3 seconds at 480P. The text-to-GIF model is not named.
Does well: it has the widest toolbox here, the video-to-GIF and frame tools are free, and the free tools have no watermark. Photo animation goes up to 1080P.
Limits: AI generation needs a login. It is the priciest per GIF on the list: packs are $9.90 for 5 text GIFs, $19.99 for 14 and $29.99 for 24, which works out to about $1.98, $1.43 and $1.25 each. New accounts get 100 credits, and a text GIF costs "100+" credits.
Price: one-time packs from $9.90.
Best for: people who also need to turn a video into a GIF or combine pictures, and make AI GIFs now and then.
GifGen
GifGen is "One image in, a looping GIF out." You upload one picture, then describe a motion or pick a style such as Rotate, Bounce, Glitch or Zoom. It says it builds on Google's Gemini and, optionally, OpenAI's image models. It has Standard and Smoother modes, but the page gives no duration or file size.
Does well: the photo workflow is simple and it has a free start of 30 credits. Failed generations are refunded.
Limits: no text-only input, no stated output size, and no stated watermark rule. Pricing is a subscription: 9.99 EUR a month for 1,000 credits, "Up to 1,600 stickers — or 100 animated", which is about 0.10 EUR per animated GIF if you use the full amount.
Price: 9.99 EUR a month, cancel anytime.
Best for: people who make animated stickers or loops from a single image, every month.
ImagenGIF
ImagenGIF is our site, so weigh this section with that in mind. It makes a GIF from text, or from a photo plus a prompt ("Add a photo"), and it can also make still PNG images. It runs on OpenAI's GPT-Image-2.6: Flare for Standard and Sunburst for HD. You choose 8, 12 or 16 frames, 70, 120 or 200 ms per frame, and 720x720, 576x864 or 864x576. A Standard GIF takes about 20 seconds and an HD GIF about a minute.

Does well: you set frames, speed and shape yourself, so results are repeatable. There is no subscription, credits never expire and failed generations are refunded. GIFs come without a watermark. There are dedicated pages for text to GIF lettering, GIF memes, pet GIFs from your own photo, birthday GIFs with a name and pixel art GIFs.
Limits: there is no free tier, because every GIF runs a paid OpenAI model. Clips are short: at most 16 frames, which is 3.2 seconds at 200 ms. It does not take video input. You need an account, though signing up is free.
Price: a Standard GIF is 3 credits (4 at 16 frames) and an HD GIF is 6. Packs are $4.99 for 40 credits, $9.99 for 100, $24.99 for 300 and $49.99 for 700, so a Standard GIF costs $0.37 in the smallest pack and $0.21 in the largest. See pricing.
Best for: people who want control over frames and speed, pay only when they make a GIF, and prefer one-time packs to a subscription. If you want a free try, use Magic Hour first. See our GPT Image 2.6 generator page for the model, or our guide on how to make a GIF with AI.
